Aims, contents and method of the course
This course examines the ways gender takes shape in higher education and provides an introduction to useful feminist frameworks for the study of higher education. Gender disparities, institutionalized inequities, campus climates, and the influence of gender and sexuality on leadership and governance will be explored. Discussions will be framed using an intersectional lens that considers race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, ability and other social identities, in addition to gender and sexuality.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The primary goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities gender and sexuality present for higher education. Interweaving principles and concepts related to equity-oriented practices, members of the course will engage with scholarship related to organizational change and development, diversity and equity, and higher education's role within the larger society.
Examination topics
Members of this class will: familiarize themselves with concepts related to gender, race/ethnicity, nationality, intersectionality, and other socially constructed identities and systems; examine how research and practice can embrace "diversity toward equity" in higher education; and consider ways of thinking, learning, doing, and being that facilitate social justice at an individual and institutional level.
