Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The main focus of the seminar will be on people who by their lives spent at different places in the world influence our perception of other cultures. These may be men and women who do or did "development" work but also conquerors, missionaries, travellors in the past and today. The topic inter alia implies an examination of (auto-)biographical sources as well as of the findings of cultural and global studies.
Assessment and permitted materials
Active participation, preparation of several shorter texts in prepartion of a scientific seminar paper: at least 40.000 characters including blanks plus bibliography; regular attendance, presentations
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Understanding the role of (historical) actors, refinement of methods, knowledge of pertinent theories.
