Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course covers some topics in Development Economics, mostly on the 'micro' side: credit, insurance, education, fertility, economics of the household,... Special emphasis will be put on policy design, policy evaluation, and on the design of empirical research strategies. Prior knowledge of introductory economics is required. No prior knowledge of statistics or econometrics is assumed.
Assessment and permitted materials
Students will be evaluated on the basis of two elements: (i) their presentations during the course; (ii) a research proposal they will have to elaborate at the end of the semester.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students will develop analytical/empirical skills to approach a number of problems that are frequently debated in development policy debates.
Examination topics
Different theories will be discussed, as well as the related empirical evidence and policy debates.
Reading list
(Exact titles to be confirmed.) Readings (mostly academic journal articles) will range from purely theoretical to empirical papers, and policy documents.
