Aims, contents and method of the course

Reading of (extracts from) the Babylonian Poem of Erra and Ishum

Assessment and permitted materials

UPDATE: selected fragments will be posted weekly on Moodle and are to be translated (with notes) and sent to the teacher every Monday. There will be no oral presentation, instead the students are expected to write a short paper on a pertinent topic.
Selected fragments of the Poem of Erra and Ishum will be read in class. Students are required to prepare for this at home. In addition, they are to read passages of the text in translation at home. The students will give a short presentation on a pertinent topic. At the end of the term, an review test is to be taken.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

UPDATE: the translations sent to the teacher will count for 50% of the total; not sending a translation counts as absence, as well as being more than a week late (max 3x absence); paper 30%; final text 20% (format to be decided)
Presence (3 absences are admissible) & participation in class work with prior preparation (50%); written exam on texts read: 20%; oral presentation: 30%.
