Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims and contents: Guidance in writing a short individual paper on rhetorical elements (Belâghat) in Ottoman poetry. A knowledge of Belâghat is absolutely necessary to understand Ottoman poetry.
Method: informative texts, reports on research, discussion. Change due to the fact that teaching has now to take place online: In addition to the informative texts, information is continuously sent the students per mail. Weekly homework is given, checked and commented per mail, and the students' questions are answered per mail or phone.

Assessment and permitted materials

No final examination, but see under "Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab" (Minimum requirements and criteria of evaluation).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The minimum requirement for a positive evaluation is constant active collaboration (missing thrice at most is permitted), an oral report complete with handout, and the writing of a seminar paper (including a possible consultation talk thereon) in the form of a paper on some rhetorical elements in Ottoman poetry according to the rules of good scholarly practice (among other things: no plagiarism! acceptable linguistic and stylistic level! correct citing!). The collaboration includes research on a small scale and reports on it as well as discussion. Each partial accomplishment will be evaluated individually. The seminar paper (and possible consultation talk) will make up 60% of the evaluation, the oral report with handout and other collaboration 40% thereof. Change because the teaching has now to take place online: Should the regular university activities not be resumed in time and so oral reports not be possible, handouts that are more detailed than usual will take their place.

Examination topics

Determining and interpreting rhetorical elements (Belâghat) in Ottoman poetry.

Reading list

Informative text; more literature will be specified during the term. The students will also be sent pdfs of articles per email.
