Aims, contents and method of the course

• Lecture course on continuity and change in the political history of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey.
• Weekly readings consist of primary and secondary sources (mostly either in German or English).
• The goal of the course is to develop the skills to critically assess modern conceptions of Ottoman and Turkish history with reference to primary and secondary sources.

Assessment and permitted materials

• First written examination in the last week of the semester (26.01.2022). Second date on 23.02.2022. Third date at the end of the summer semester 2022.
• The weekly readings (in English, and German) are part of the final exam; the exam cannot be passed without reference to these readings.
