Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The seminar will deal with Orhan Pamuk's novel "Beyaz Kale". Orhan Pamuk as an author, the novel itself, the historical facts behind the novel, and historical novels in general will be discussed. Extracts will be read in class.Method: students' papers in class, discussion of the principles of writing a thesis.
Assessment and permitted materials
Only students who are regularly registered ("angemeldet") may attend. Whoever is registered and does not show up in the first unit without prior notice will be cancelled from the list of participants. Regular attendance is mandatory, therefore see under "Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab" (Minimum requirements and criteria of evaluation).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The minimum requirement for a positive evaluation is constant active collaboration (missing three times is tolerated), giving a talk in class and the writing of a seminar paper (Bachelor paper) of 20-25 pages according to the rules of good scholarly practice (among other things: no plagiarism! - see https://medienportal.univie.ac.at/uniview/uni-intern/detailansicht/artikel/abgeschrieben-und-erwischt-so-funktioniert-die-plagiatspruefung/ - acceptable linguistic and stylistic level! correct citing!).
