Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In-depth understanding of political and social developments in the modern Arab World and familiarity with major theoretical approaches associated with them. Readings and discussion of Arabic primary sources. Readings and analyses will be focused on texts from the milieu of the Muslim Brotherhood in order to acquire in-depth, encompassing and context-sensitive knowledge about an important religious, social and political movement of the modern Arab world.

Seminar paper, participation in discussions of assigned readings
Corona-Update: Due to the switch to home-learning students' active participation will be assessed on the basis of weekly submitted summaries (incl. reflections) of the assigned texts in the range of approx. 3 pages. Analogous to the obligatory nature of physical presence under normal conditions, these weekly submissions are likewise obligatory. Nevertheless three "absences" (i.e. non-submissions) will be tolerated.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Minimum requirement for successful completion of the course is active participation and physical presence (3 absences will be tolerated), as well as the completion of a seminar paper (including possible reflection) in due time, in accordance with the demands of the lecturer and the guidelines of good scientific practice. Grading will be based on participation and the seminar paper at a 30:70 ratio.
