Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course is the second of a two- (potentially three-) part introduction to Syriac. In this course we will concentrate on reading primary texts in the original Syriac.
Assessment and permitted materials
Grading will be based on in-class participation and performance on the final exam. The final exam will account for 30% of the grade for the course.The grading system is as follows:
5 (0-52): not enough
4 (53-65): enough
3 (66-77): satisfactory
2 (78-90): good
1 (91-100): very good
At the end of the semester we will have our final exam. This exam will consist of an excerpt from an authentic Syriac text, which students will have to translate. Translations can be in English or German. Students will have a full week in which to complete the exam.
