Aims, contents and method of the course
The major objective of this course is to enable advanced Hindi students, under expert guidance and supervision, to read and analyze texts of Hindi newspaper. For this class, articles on current issues from the online version of contemporary daily Hindi newspapers will be selected. The class meetings are divided into formal lecturing, close reading, presentation and discussion. It is absolutely necessary that all students engage with the weekly preparation in order to participate in the class discussions. Regular participation and a sound knowledge of Hindi are strictly demanded for the course. Final examination asks students to respond to questions pertaining to the class readings. The final grade will be calculated as follows: class attendance and participation 10%, final exam 30 %, home works 20% and an essay in Hindi (3,000 words) at the end of the semester 40%.
