Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Based on reading academic texts (available online), students learn about the key theories of International Relations (IR). This newly acquired knowledge is applied to an analysis of IR in East Asia. Students know and understand central thoughts of IR theories such as liberalism, realism, and constructivism and are able to apply these to the East Asian region. They are able to conduct an analysis of security policy in East Asia and of key security challenges in the region.

Assessment and permitted materials

Students must write a term paper (Seminararbeit). Details including layout and grading criteria, as well as on other assignments, will be announced during class.
