In the first semester we work on the precise pronunciation of Hanyu Pinyin. The focus is on the initials, finals and the 4 tones (+ neutral tone) of Chinese.
1.Correct pronunciation of initials and final sounds.
with special emphasis on the pronunciation of easily confused initial sounds, in order to teach students the correct position of the vocal tract: Voiceless dental sounds(z/c/s);Retroflex sounds(zh/ch/sh),Palatal sounds(j/q/x);Unaspirated sounds(j/z/zh);Aspirated sounds(q/c/ch);Fricative sounds(x/s/sh)
2.Correct realization of the sounds;
In the modern Chinese PinYin system there are 4 tones (and one neutral tone), which contribute significantly to the differentiation of meaning - the lack of mastery of the sounds is therefore a major barrier to oral communication. For this reason, the lecture will focus on the initial phase of the 4 tones (+ neutral tone). The aim is to enable students to differentiate between the 4 tones and in a next step to correctly realise them themselves.
3.Combination of initials and finals.
Differentiation of i and -i,n and ng,e and ei
4.Correct pronunciation of single characters
Study the form of the syllables. A special feature of Chinese is the concept "One character - one syllable".
5.Correct Pronunciation of Words
In the modern Chinese Pinyin system, a word usually consists of one or two characters;Students in the first semester should develop the correct pronunciation of larger linguistic units by means of the precise pronunciation of individual characters. In the course of this, tone modulation and "er" suffixing will also be discussed.
