Aims, contents and method of the course

China's rapid transformation from a predominantly rural society to an increasingly urbanized economy has had profound and far-reaching effects on the nation. The complexities of China's urbanization process between 1978 and 2000, have implications for various facets of society, economy and governance. By critically evaluating existing academic literature on this extensively researched topic, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of China's urbanization and cultivate the essential skills required for their scholarly investigations.
The course focuses on equipping students with the tools to define precise research questions, effectively navigate scholarly literature, analyze and synthesize existing research findings, identify gaps in the existing knowledge base, and ultimately produce a well-structured and insightful literature review. These skills will be honed through a combination of engaging lectures, interactive presentations and discussions, and individual writing assignments.

The final grade will be computed according to the relative weight of the subgrades. To pass the course, you have to reach more than 50 points in the final grade, participate in the class activities and submit all assignments. Attendance is required. If you miss more than three sessions, you will fail the class.
