Method:
Including frontal teaching by the course instructor and practical exercises
- Basic rules for stroke order
- Radical signs
- Hanja writing style
- Writing exercises
- Reading (pronunciation)
- Reading exercises
- Understanding the meaning of Hanja (such as explanation with images of hieroglyphs)
- Comprehension of Hanja in Korean vocabulary

Assessment and permitted materials

Attendance on the first day of the course counts as your first examination attempt, and the course will be graded accordingly. If you withdraw from the course within the first three sessions and formally deregister, grading is typically waived. Unexcused absence from the first session will result in automatic deregistration.
An excuse with a corresponding reason must be provided in writing via email to the course instructor.

The type of assessment consists of two on-site written tests:
1 mid-term exam (tentatively scheduled for April 24)
1 final exam (tentatively scheduled for June 26)
No aids are allowed during exams.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To receive a passing grade, you must not be absent without a valid excuse more than three times (3 times). Exceptions to the attendance requirement can be obtained with a medical certificate, and in special cases, you must reach an agreement with the course instructor.

To earn a grade, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Homework (10%): Homework must be submitted on Moodle on time. The percentage weighting on Moodle is purely technical and therefore irrelevant for the final evaluation.
- Mid-term exam (40%)
- Final exam (50%)
Retakes are only allowed with a medical certificate. There are no re-examinations.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
To receive a passing grade, a minimum of 60 points is required.
1 (very good) 100-90 points
2 (good) 89-80 points
3 (satisfactory) 79-70 points
4 (sufficient) 69-60 points
5 (insufficient) 59-0 points
