Aims, contents and method of the course

Unterrichtsziele sind vor allem die Verbesserung der Hörkompetenz und der mündlichen Sprachkompetenz. Grundlegende Argumentationsfähigkeit und Kenntnisse im Bereich der interkulturellen Kommunikation sind erwünscht. In der Lehrveranstaltung wird Skript von Sha Yexin (Jiang Qing und ihre Ehemänner) gearbeitet. Historische Videos werden als Hörübungen durchgeführt. Außerdem werden Themen der modernen chinesischen Welt aus den Bereichen Kultur, Geschichte, Politik, etc. diskutiert. Kursteilnehmer werden den PLAY online durchführen.

Assessment and permitted materials

Die Leistungsbeurteilung setzt sich wie folgt zusammen: Mitarbeitsnote (Hausübungen, Quiz, aktive Teilnahm im Unterricht, Anwesenheit): 30 %, Referaten 20%, Diskussionen 20%, Abschlussperformance 30%. Bei einer Endpunktezahl unter 60 % der Maximalpunktezahl ist die Endnote negativ. .

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Die aktive Teilnahme am Unterricht sowie Pünktlichkeit werden in jeder Einheit vorausgesetzt.
Die Note setzt sich zusammen aus:
-Hausarbeit (pünktliche Abgabe, Termin Anhaltung)
-Referaten
-aktive Kursteilnahme
- Abschlussperformance

Examination topics

Vokabeln, Satzstruktur gelernt während Semester. Es gibt keine typische Prüfungsformen, aber die alternativen Bewertungen sind verfügbar.

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course is taught in a digital format Synchronously due to COVID-19 crisis. However, we want to draw your attention to the possibility that the course can be switched to a hybrid asynchronous manner at any time if campus restriction has been released.

In order to receive a positive grade, you are not allowed to miss class more than three times. Exceptions to the mandatory attendance are to be obtained through a medical certificate; in special cases, the agreement with the course management can be established.

== Aims ==
1. Students will discuss the issues of the Chinese Mandarin-speaking regions by integrating five topics, such as languages and intercultural communications, the religious impacts to present culture, environmental protection, contemporary society in the context of globalization, and discussion and negotiations in a professional setting.

2. With authentic intercultural material, students will improve their listening and speaking skills at the same time, in order to achieve a level expected for basic debating and better linguistic competence.

3. Through the discussions between the lecturer and students, students are expected to activate their intercultural awareness and develop the essential interactive skills within the contemporary pluricultural-and-plurilingual world.

== Content ==
In the first week, the course introduction, arrangements, grading criteria and rubrics in this summer semester will be clarified. On the 2nd and 3rd weeks, students will practice their conversational skills by classfying, exploring and analysing some cultural materials. Beginning from 4th week, students will learn and discuss on one topic and its relevant vocabulary biweekly. The rest of semester will continue in this teaching mode until the end of the summer semester.

== Method ==
This course uses BBB digital platform assessing through Moodle.

Assessment and permitted materials

• Homework: four video records(5-8 mins) and a team-work project for the fifth theme (discussion and negotiations in a professional setting). Only the three highest scores will be counted.
• Exams: the mid-term exam will be conducted in the form presentation, and the Final exam is an oral exam.
• The evaluation includes regular and active participation, contribution in discussions, and assessments.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

• A total of 20 points can be achieved as follows: participation and cooperation 20%, homework 20%, midterm assessment 30%, and the final assessment 30%.
• Grading indicators for homework and assessments: pronunciation 40%; content 40%; fluency 20%
• The semester scoring is based on a 20-point system: 18-20(90-100%) = Very Good / 1, 15-17(80-89%) = Good / 2, 12-14(70-79%) = Satisfactory / 3, 10-11(60 - 69%) = Fair / 4, 0-9(under 60%) = Not Enough / 5)

Examination topics

The topic of the Mid-term exam is within the contents that students have learned before mid-term on 5 May 2021. The Mid-term exam will be conducted in the form of a discussion about the assigned film in class and a reflection report, and then upload the files to an assigned folder.
The topic of the final exam will be framed on the five themes that the students have learned throughout the whole semester. It is an oral exam with Mr. Chung individually online on BBB platform through Moodle. The length of the final exam is around 20 mins. The student will need to fill in an online time-slot on MOODLE to select a suitable time slot for this exam one week in advance.

Reading list

Since this is an oral language course, there is no reading reference but podcasts and video-clips, four pieces, that are available to assess for the learning of speaking and listening. A homework guideline with bullet-points of requirements will be provided.
