Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The field trip to Malawi, which is expected to take place from September 2nd to 23rd, 2022, aims to visit musicians from the very diverse traditional and popular music of Malawi, to interview them and to record musical performances. At the same time, this should give an insight into the practice of field research. The experiences and results of the joint research are discussed and reflected on daily. The starting point for the multi-day trips to different regions of the country, in the south, in the center and in the north, is the Oral Literature Research Program of Dr. Malamusi in Chileka, southern Malawi. The overnight stays are in the research center of Dr. Malamusi as well as in simple accommodations in the villages. The trip is organized and led by Dr. Moya Malamusi, who plans and directs it on site in Malawi, and Dr. August Schmidhofer, who is responsible for the preparations in Vienna and the financial settlement and who accompanies the excursion in Malawi.
Prof. Bozena Muszkalska and five musicology students from the University of Wroclav (Poland) will also take part in the excursion.

The field trip was supposed to take place last semester, but had to be postponed due to the corona pandemic. ALL PLACES ARE ALREADY GIVEN.
