Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this "hands-on", practically oriented course, we will elicit further, more complex data structures of Yaadre (a Gur language of Burkina Faso, West Africa) from a speaker and also extend the scope of our electronic database and interlinearisation system (based on data and structures elicited last semester). We will make increased use of the rich indexing and export functions of Shoebox/Toolbox and discuss the integration of selected data in a linguistic article.

Assessment and permitted materials

Electronic processing of a dataset with STx, Toolbox/Shoebox and MS Word. Participation in class.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim is to increase the participants' ability to elicit, analyse and electronically process linguistically relevant data of a non-European, non-Indo-European language, up to the level of a fully formatted article.

Examination topics

Classic field sessions with sound recording; demonstrations on the computer; frontal teaching
