Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The aim of the course is to get to know the variety of disciplines within systematic musicology and to understand the scientific methods. The course consists of two theme blocks. In theme 1 (acoustics) the history of acoustic research from Plato to Helmholtz is briefly discussed, as well as the physical basics of sound generation and propagation, and many of the acoustic sub-disciplines are introduced. The second theme block (music psychology) is about hearing, perception and cognition of sound and provides an overview of empirical research with a special focus on current developments. The lecture takes place largely as a frontal class with a variety of acoustic and perception experiments.
