Assessment and permitted materials
In order to finish the course, students have to:
1. autonomously conduct an empirical study,
2. attend the sessions on a regular basis,
3. contribute actively,
4. deliver a poster presentation of their study, and
5. “publish” their study in form of a short article. Please note: Slots in courses with continuous assessment are limited and sometimes coveted. Therefore, the following general rule applies: whoever registers and does not deregister on time(!) will receive a grade, no matter what.

In the first part (last semester), the fundamentals of empirical quantitative research were addressed.
In the second, part students will conduct a small empirical study on their own with ongoing communication and feedback during the sessions. Thus, this course mainly addresses students who finished the first part “Quantitative and Empirical Methods in Music Psychology I: Introduction”.Objectives:
Students, who finish this course
1. gained experience in designing and conducting a quantitative empirical study,
2. know how to choose the right (statistical) evaluation methods, how to evaluate and interpret the resulting data,
3. know how to present scientific contents in written (article) and oral form (poster/presentation).Content:
The contents of the first part will now be applied practically. In small groups, students will design, conduct and eventually present a little quantitative and empirical study.
Over the course of the semester we will run through all the usual steps from submitting an abstract along with an (internal) peer review to the “publication” of a written contribution. Methods:
Students will conduct the study basically autonomously. At the beginning, planning is done during the course sessions, later the sessions will serve as forum for coordination/troubleshooting/support and, towards the end of the semester, the sessions will serve as presentation plattform.Classroom teaching:
Please note, that the option of switching back to classroom teaching is explicitly kept alive if, at some point down the road, circumstances and regulations allow it. When that moment comes, the decision will be discussed among the participants of this course (classroom teaching would not only facilitate the presentations at the end of the semester, it would also boost the fun part of it).
