Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The class will give an overview over the PIE nominal morphology and discuss basic types of PIE derivation and inflection and their development in the IE languages, with a special focus on Latin, Ancient Greek and Sanskrit. Students should have basic training in morphological terminology; basic knowledge of Ancient IE languages such as Latin, Sanskrit and Ancient Greek is helpful but not mandatory.

Assessment and permitted materials

There will be written exam at the end of term.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim of the class is to make students acquainted with the basic types of PIE nominal derivation and inflection and thus to give a basic grounding for advanced classes.

Examination topics

Lecture with handouts; reference to further literature; in order to get a certificate students will have to pass a written exam on the content of the lecture.
