Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

On the basis of the topics of interest to the student(s) from the fields of basic and applied music-psychological research, which may well be related to the content and theories of seminars already covered, the students should plan, carry out, evaluate and interpret their own empirical work. In contrast to conventional seminars/lectures in the field of empirical methodology, this seminar will explicitly use the method of research-based learning and teaching. This means that the knowledge content and professional goals are established primarily through self-directed learning and practical experience. By means of working and discussion groups, but also supporting teaching units, the student should gain experience in the implementation of an empirical social science study. The individual sections (literature & theory, planning and operationalization, control & sampling theory, evaluation and interpretation as well as theoretical integration) are to be carried out step by step in small groups on a topic of their choice.
After completing the seminar, students should be able to plan and conduct empirical studies independently. They will also be able to analyse a musicological theoretical or practical problem area and transfer it into quantitatively empirically testable questions (professional competence). You are able to independently create experimental designs, implement and statistically evaluate them and interpret the results (methodological competence). Due to the joint development, discussions and feedback from other students, the participants also learn social competence in dealing with different scientific approaches and orientations (social competence).
