Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, we will read texts by Breton speaking 20th century writers and discuss their contents, language, historical, cultural, and biographical background.
In order to follow the course, students must have basic working knowledge of the Breton language (equivalent to Bretonisch I & II as held by me earlier).

Whereas my introductory Breton classes deal almost exclusively with the spoken everyday language, this course aims at acquainting students with the literary register in all its diverity. At the same time, an overview of 20th century Breton literature and the biographies of some of its eponents will be given.

Examination topics

Predominantly joint reading and discussion of literary texts.
