Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will explore the roles and rights of women in early Celtic society, and examine the ways in which women are depicted in medieval Celtic literature. Course readings will include historical descriptions of the Celts by Classical authors, Irish and Welsh law codes, saints' lives, poetry, and mythological tales including the Táin Bó Cuailnge and the Four Branches of the Mabinogi. All texts will be read in (English or German) translation.
