Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
During the last decades a range of interdisciplinary theories of text production and the development of individuals' text production competencies were developed in linguistics and neighboring disciplines like psychology, education studies and anthropology. This course aims at introducing and comparing the existing approaches within their historical and theoretical contexts and at investigating their respective strengths and weaknesses in terms of theory and application. One focus of the course is the investigation of writing research in Austria.
Assessment and permitted materials
Oral presentation, seminar paper at end of the semester.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students should deal with the main theoretical and application oriented aspects of the respective theories, gain insight into the relevant research methods and should be able to critically evaluate the current state of research.
Examination topics
Short input by instructor at the beginning of the semester, then group or individual research on single topics by students.
