Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This proseminar focuses on linguistic minority research. This means we will address the question of who "counts" as a minority, of the related political, economical and social challenges, and of which research goals are formulated within linguistics. In order to grant studentsdirect insight into this research domaine, this semester will be driven by small research project of students.After an introduction of the basic literature and issues, students will develop small scale research projects in groups on language minorities in Vienna. They will present their results at the end of the semester on the basis of websites created for their projects, followed by a project report.
Assessment and permitted materials
The seminar is taking place every other week, which is why the units will last for three hours. This will allow for focused discussions. Performance evaluation is based on three tasks, which are related to projects done by the students: (1) designing of a website, (2) presentation of website, (3) project report.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Regular (unexcused absence is possible once; further abscences can be sanctioned with additional tasks) and active participation.

A reading list will be made available at the beginning of the semester. Texts will be in German and English. The course language is German.
