Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course will focus on the theory, processing and acquisition of linguistic phenomena related to ambiguity, such as: 1) scope ambiguity of quantifiers and logical operators; 2) pragmatic ambiguity due to implicatures; 3) lexical and conceptual ambiguity. We will discuss some important linguistic issues related to this topic and explore how they have been investigated in the fields of language acquisition and processing. Some classic studies will be overviewed, along with novel experimental data.
Assessment and permitted materials
- one 10 minutes short presentation during the class + 2 commentary papers by at least 4 pages each on two articles/topics or one by at least 8 pages on one article/topic
- for those who cannot give a presentation for any reason: 2 commentary papers by at least 8 pages each or 1 by 16 pages
- for those who cannot give a presentation for any reason: 2 commentary papers by at least 8 pages each or 1 by 16 pages
