Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The class will cover the traditional PIE sound system and recent studies as well as basic theoretical concepts of sound change. In getting familiar with the traditional and with recent concepts, students will be able to undertake new etymologial studies. Method: Lecture with handouts, reference to further literature on the Moodle platform.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam at the end of term, respectively, summer term 2022. Students may use all handouts and all the handbooks and grammars covered in class.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In order to take the class, students must be familiar with the method of PIE linguistics and its terminology.
