Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This module is designed to introduce students to the basic notions of Corpus Linguistics and to explore Construction Grammar features by means of CL tools.

At the end of the course, students should be able
- to investigate the semantics and grammar of lexical items by means of CL tools;
- to investigate lexical features of genres and registers;
- to identify and describe grammatical constructions in terms of CL notions;
- to perform statistical modelling of corpus data;
- to apply CL methodology to the research areas in applied linguistics (e.g. critical discourse analysis, literary stylistics, language learning).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students are required to attend classes regularly and to maintain an 85% attendance rate.
