Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course explores the intersection of applied linguistics and human-computer interaction (HCI) through a technofeminist lens. We engage in the analysis and critique of speech technologies and dialogue systems from a feminist perspective and examine their social, cultural and gender implications. Students will learn about the historical and socio-political context of speech technologies and engage with feminist critiques of these technologies, focusing on issues such as gender bias, lack of diversity and objectification. We will also look at technofeminist approaches to speech technologies and explore intersectional perspectives in their development, as well as strategies to enhance diversity and inclusivity.
