Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course provides a survey of some basic properties characteristic of natural language quantification. Topics include: a primer in Generalized Quantifier theory; diagnosing scope; strategies for scope taking; structural and semantic restrictions on scope; choice and Skolem functions; scope and intensionality. Participants are expected to have some background in formal semantics (lambda calculus) and syntax.
Assessment and permitted materials
Requirements for a Certificate: Homework assignments, or paper.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The course will be taught in English.
Examination topics
The course will employ methods developed in standard formal semantics, generalized quantifier theory, and generative syntax.
