Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In the first part of the course, we will discuss basic theoretic models of untutored Second Language Acquisition (SLA). In the second part, we look at natural acquisition orders focusing on the acquisition of the verb and word order in German. The third part of the course is devoted to the investigation of individual factors in untutored SLA (e.g. age, motivation, talent) with special focus on the age factor and the Critical Period Hypothesis.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation, course work, take an active part in the discussion, presentation with handout, paper on data analysis (10 pages)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students will be introduced to central theoretical problems and empirical results of SLA-research, they collect a small set of data to practise the terminology

Examination topics

Lecture, reading and discussion of basic texts, oral presentations by students, small data project with analysis
