Aims, contents and method of the course

In this philological lecture the question is treated how correct the legends of the insular Celts which were originally handed down orally were written down and which correspondences or differences are between the world of the Celts before Christ on the continent with the world of the insular Celts after Christ. For this purpose selected parts of Irish and Welsh legends are compared with the reports of antique authors. All texts which are treated in this lecture are given in original and in German translation.

Mediation of philological-comparative competence in comparison of Irish and Welsh legends with the reports of antique (Greek and Roman) authors.

Examination topics

Philological comparison and interpretation of selected parts of Irish and Welsh legends with the reports of antique authors about the world of the Celts before Christ.
