Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Basic pronunciation and intonation of Irish, particularly regarding the association of written Irish with the appropriate sound are the focus of this course. To this end, simple texts are used for practice. Dialects will also be discussed once the basics are clear. This course is suitable for all levels. It is highly recommended that students who are learning Irish for the first time attend the course "Neuirisch - Basiswissen" in order to learn a bit about the basic structure of the language.
The goal of this course is to improve listening and oral skills for spoken Irish.

Method: interactive - The students are expected to practise at home. In some cases recordings will be made available for this purpose.

Assessment and permitted materials

attendance, general participation , continuous small checks of material learned, also orally.

Reading list

I recommend, that every student has a dictionary (e.g. Foclóir Póca, Publ. An Gúm). There are alternatives in the internet (focloir.ie) but they often give the student too much information. Working with small compact dictionary is generally easier.
