Aims, contents and method of the course

Der Whistleblowerfilm ist ein Genre, dass noch nicht ausreichend im akademischen Bereich untersucht wurde. Dazu gehören Filme wie Serpico, Silkwood oder Snowden, die sich entweder direkt mit der Figur des Whistleblowers, oder mit Journalist*innen die eng mit ihnen zusammenarbeiten beschäftigen.

Das Hauptziel dieser Lehrveranstaltung ist es, verschiedene Blickwinkel auf den Whistleblowerfilm zu untersuchen, die filmanalytisch relevant sind: Whistleblowerfilm als Genre, Dramaturgie, den filmgeschichtlichen Kontext und das gesellschaftlich-kritische Potential der Filme. Das Seminar soll auch Auseinandersetzung mit den Themen die heute in Zeiten von “surveillance capitalism” (Zuboff) von besonderer Bedeutung sind ermöglichen, wie etwa die Frage der Privatsphäre und die Kommodifizierung des Individuums (durch Facebook, Google, etc.). Weitere Zugänge zum Thema werden im Laufe der Veranstaltung und unter der Mitwirkung von Studierenden entwickelt.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Anwesenheit (2 Mal fehlen ist erlaubt), Sichtung der Filme, zwei Essays (70%), aktive Beteiligung an Diskussionen (30%).
