Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture focuses on the different generations of Austrian female avantgard-, short- and video filmmakers, who began their creative work in the early 1970ies and whose work had an important influence on the Austrian cinematic art.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The Lecture wants to give a substential insight in the history and development of the cinematic art of these Austrian filmmakers.
A filmhistoric indroduction also focuses on the terms of production, presentation and distribution of these flms.
Beside of an excursion into important basic appraoches of the "Feminist Film Theory" and the discussion about a "Female Aesthetic" in the early 1980ies, the presentation of a large range of these films shall demonstrate the diversity ans specifics of this cinematic art.
