Aims, contents and method of the course

Was macht eine Person aus, und unter welchen Umständen bleibt sie dieselbe Person? Was sind die Bedingungen dafür, dass eine Person zu einer gegebenen Zeit mit einer Person zu einer anderen Zeit identisch ist? Diese Fragen betreffen die (numerische) Identität von Personen durch die Zeit und fragen nach den konstitutiven Bedingungen personaler Identität. Ein Schwerpunkt des Seminars wird auf der Gegenüberstellung von zwei verschiedenen Auffassungen personaler Identität liegen: den auf Locke zurückgehenden Konzeptionen, nach denen das Hauptkriterium für personale Identität in psychologischer Kontinuität besteht, und den sogenannten körperlichen und animalistischen Konzeptionen. Welche Bedeutung wir personaler Identität zuschreiben sollten und ob personale Identität überhaupt eine wichtige Rolle spielt, wird eine weitere Frage darstellen. Wir werden unter anderem Texte von John Locke, Bernard Williams, Sidney Shoemaker, Eric Olson und Derek Parfit lesen. Einige Texte sind nur in englischer Sprache verfügbar.
