Die letzte Lehrveranstaltung (LV) in der Version BA Philosophie 2011 wurde hierzu im Sommersemester 2017 abgehalten.
Sollten Sie noch immer die LV für die BA-Philosophie-Version 2011 absolvieren - und sich nicht unter den neuen Studienplan (Version 2017) unterstellen lassen wollen (https://ssc-phil.univie.ac.at/studienorganisation/unterstellungen/bachelor-philosophie-von-2011-auf-2017/), so können Sie noch bis Sommersemester 2020 diese Äquivalenz-LV aus dem neuen Studienplan für die Version 2011 auf Basis der je aktuellen, äquivalenten LV ablegen. Eigene LVen für die Version 2011 können nicht mehr angeboten werden.
Bei der Anmeldung zur LV achten Sie bitte unbedingt darauf, dass Ihre Anmeldung über die für Sie gültige Version erfolgt (!).
In der Regel stehen mehrere Studienplanpunkte bei der Anmeldung zur Auswahl. Die Auswahl der Studienplanpunkte kann vom System her nicht auf Ihre tatsächliche Curriculumsversion begrenzt werden. D.h. Sie müssen bei der Anmeldung darauf achten, sich ausschließlich 1. für LVen Ihres Curriculums und 2. der im U:Find angegebenen Codierung/Zuordnungen (bei jeder LV untenstehend angegeben) anzumelden. Andernfalls können Sie die Leistung ggf. nicht für Ihr Studium verwenden. Eine nachträgliche Änderung kann vom SSC nicht abgesichert werden.

Aims, contents and method of the course

CONTENT:

This course provides an introduction to the philosophy of personal identity. Main issues will concern the following questions: What is personal identity? How can we know about our identity? And, what role does narrativity play in the constitution of our identity? To address these questions, we will read introductory texts, classical texts (Hume, Locke) and various contemporary texts of different philosophical traditions (e.g. Parfit, Ricoeur).

METHODS:

In the first two seminar meetings, each blocked and of 5 h, we will discuss selected texts on self-knowledge and personal identity. Students will read chapters before the meetings and prepare our discussion by fulfilling small assignments on the learning platform moodle to become familiar with key positions regarding personal identity. The second half of the seminar will be held as a two-day undergraduate workshop at which students will be asked to give a talk of around 20 min. The topic of the workshop will be: ‘Self and Identity. Becoming the Person One is’. Participants of the workshop will be the students of this and another seminar (“Self and Normativity”), and remaining free slots will be filled by international undergraduate students recruited through an open call for papers. After the workshop, as final paper, students are required to submit the manuscript of their presentation (with possible revision based on peer-feedback in the discussion of their talks at the workshop).

AIMS:

 learn central concepts of self-knowledge, personal identity, and narrativity
 get to know different techniques of argumentation and practice to formulate own arguments and ideas in the discussion
 gain first experiences in presenting own ideas to peers at an international level
 gain first workshop experiences (no prior workshop experiences required!!)

Assessment and permitted materials

- Participation in discussion of preparatory meetings (10%)
- Fulfilling short assignments on moodle (10%)
- Presentation at workshop (10%)
- Participation in discussion of the workshop (30%)
- Revised manuscript of presentation (40%)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

It is mandatory to attend and present at the undergraduate workshop on 11th/12th January 2019. Students can miss one of the preparatory 5-h-meetings before the workshop. All students are required to fulfill small assignments as communicated on moodle, give a talk at the workshop, and submit a revised manuscript as final paper. Talk and manuscript can be either in German or English.
