Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will cover major topics in classical Chinese thought emphasizing Confucianism and Daoism. It is intended to be introductory, so knowledge of Chinese will not be required (though it would be useful). Students will be evaluated on the basis of participation, an in-class presentation, a comparative (Western & Chinese) essay, and a paper on debates within Chinese philosophy itself. The course will be conducted in English, so students should be skilled at listening and speaking. Assignments will be accepted in either English or German.
