Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Biotechnological laboratories are producing more and more cyborgs and hybrids, couplings between organism and machine. Cyborgs are creatures of social reality as well as creatures of fiction.
In this seminar we will firstly focus on developing theoretical understandings of technology, particularly cyborg-technologies, and techno-science. We will tackle the confusion of the boundary between science and fiction, the natural and the crafted, the human and the non-human. In the second part we will focus on - utopian as well as dystopian - science fiction literature and movies concerning the future of humans as incarnated cyborgs.
