Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
In order to receive a grade for the seminar, either a presentation (30-35 minutes; the presentation also has to be elaborate and submitted in written form) has to be given or a paper (20 pages; 1 ½ spaces) has to be written. The topic of the paper has to be determined in cooperation with the instructor.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The seminar will employ close readings; it will also provide students with the opportunity to hone their presentation and writing skills.
Examination topics
The seminar will consist of presentations and class discussions.
Reading list
The seminar participants will examine closely the following seminal texts by Adorno: The Actuality of Philosophy; The Idea of Natural History; Selections from In Search of Wagner; On the Fetish Character of Music and the Regression of Listening; Selections from Dialectic of Enlightenment; Selections from Negative Dialectics; Cultural Criticism and Society; Essay as Form; Commitment; Parataxis; Trying to Understand Endgame.

This seminar will examine seminal texts by Theodor W. Adorno. Particular emphasis will be put on Adorno’s critical rewriting of the philosophical tradition, on his account of competing philosophical approaches, as well as on his elaboration of aesthetics.
