Aims, contents and method of the course
Didactic planning and practical implementation of lesson designs with a specific focus on the competence model. Reflection and analysis of teaching practice.
Assessment and permitted materials
Active participation during individual and group assignments throughout the course, guideline-based observations of lessons, didactical planning of a lesson in a team and the implementation of the lesson design in the actual classroom setting, mapping the content of the curriculum over a school year, written paper (methodological analysis and reflection of the lesson).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Active participation during the seminar (80% physical presence at least), didactic planning and micro-teaching, seminar paper.

Aims, contents and method of the course
The seminar on philosophy education aims at instructing teacher training students to develop problem-based forms of teaching philosophy by developing their assessment, planning and teaching skills. Participants reconsider the theoretical foundations and practical teaching components of philosophy education by using a series of lessons (e.g., happiness, justice, etc.) as a model. In addition, they design two teaching units with a complete series of lessons about a core issue of philosophy.Objectives:
• Analysing and reflecting on the aims of philosophy teaching (approaches in philosophy education, concept of philosophy education, philosophical skills)
• Reconsidering the Austrian curriculum of philosophy teaching (units, series of lessons about a subject area)
• Designing and reflecting on problem-based teaching of philosophy in the classroom
• Analysing and developing skill-based forms of assessmentContents
• Philosophy and philosophy education (basic understanding and fundamental positions of philosophy, basic philosophical questions and problems)
• Approaches in philosophy education (Ekkehard Martens, Wulff D. Rehfus, Johannes Rohbeck)
• Philosophical skills and the concept of philosophy education (competency requirements and the philosophy education process)
• Analysis of the syllabus and guidelines for the new leaving exams (teaching and testing philosophical attainment and skills)
• Analysis of philosophy readers and handouts (subject-related educational goals of course books)
• Working and teaching methods in the philosophy classroom context (philosophical methods of text interpretation, Socratic dialogue, concept analysis, thought experiments, philosophical arguing, essay writing)
• Analysis of a series of lessons (teaching sequences and core questions)
• Planning a series of lessons (educational situation, skill-based teaching goals, selection of teaching content, media, teaching approach)
• Methods of students learning performance [assessment??] (oral examination, written paper, alternatives)
• Analysis and design of skill-based assignments on the oral exam (requirements and topical coherence)Methods
The seminar combines such methods as theoretical contributions by instructors, group and partner work by students, presentations, and plenary discussions. Compulsory reading and short assignments are also part of the students’ workload.

Aims, contents and method of the course
The course focuses on planning, implementing and evaluating lessons in philosophy. Methods and guidelines for the design of classroom activities will be discussed.
Assessment and permitted materials
Active participation throughout the course; creation of an audio- or videopodcast on a philosophical topic aimed at middle- or high-school-students; written paper on a philosophical topic including an exemplary lesson plan
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Attending the videoconferences and submitting a podcast and a written paper.
