Aims, contents and method of the course

Contents:
• content-based specialization in selected topics from sub-areas of psychology (application of the competences acquired in the "Vertiefungsseminar" of the Bachelor's programme)
• different research approaches, planning of research, methods of data collection and evaluation (based on the bachelor's degree course "Einführung in die Forschungsmethoden und in die Statistik" and "Theorie und Empirie I"), and conducting, analyzing, and writing of an empirical investigation.

General objectives:
• Expanding knowledge of the procedures and methods of psychological research
• Acquiring and testing skills in practice (reading and understanding of specialist literature, development of research hypotheses, conducting investigations, data analysis, and discussion of findings)

Teaching and learning methods:
• Independent work in teams
• Continuous feedback (by peers and course lecturer)
• Accompanying tutorial
• Self-study
• Discussions and working groups
• Inputs of the course lecturer / instructional discussions
• Submission of written subtasks
• Poster presentation (including discussion)
• Writing a final written paper in a team (equivalent to a research report)

Different stages of the course:
• Researching and reading of relevant literature
• Formulation of research questions/hypotheses
• Selection of measurement instruments
• Data collection
• Data analysis
• Oral Presentation of the results
• Writing of a research report

Assessment and permitted materials

• Presence and active participation (digital)
• Submission of written subtasks within the given deadlines
• Presentation of the data analysis (in the form of a scientific poster presentation)
• Written research report on the investigation carried out

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

At least 80% attendance is required in order to successfully complete the course (digital appointments).

Assessment of student performance (4 partial grades):
• Regular participation - 10 points
• Completion of the required subtasks within the deadlines - 25 points
• Oral presentation - 25 points
• Final paper Research report (team) - 40 Punkte

60 points are required for a positive assessment of the course.
• 1 ("Sehr Gut"): 100–90 points
• 2 ("Gut"): 89–81 points
• 3 ("Befriedigend"): 80–71 points
• 4 ("Genügend"): 70–60 points

Aims, contents and method of the course

Inhalte:

a) Inhaltliche Vertiefung in ausgewählten Themen aus Teilgebieten der Psychologie (Anwendung der im „Vertiefungsseminar“ des Bachelorstudiums erworbenen Kompetenzen)

b) Untersuchungsarten, Untersuchungsplanung, Methoden der Datenerhebung und -auswertung (aufbauend auf das Bachelorstudiums-Seminar „Einführung in die Forschungsmethoden und in die Statistik“ sowie aufbauend auf „Theorie und Empirie I“), und Durchführung, Auswertung sowie Verschriftlichung einer eigenen empirischen Untersuchung.

Ziele allgemein:

Kenntnisse über Ablauf und Methoden der psychologischen Forschung zu erweitern sowie Fertigkeiten praktisch zu erwerben und zu erproben (Aufarbeitung der Fachliteratur, Entwicklung von Forschungshypothesen, Durchführung von Untersuchungen, Auswertung von Daten und Diskussion von Befunden)
