Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Important chapters of the Daodejing will be analyzed and discussed thoroughly. Special attention is directed to the strict rational method of thought. In this way the usual "poetical" access to the text can be rejected.

Assessment and permitted materials

Papers dealing with the text have to be presented by the participants either orally or written. The participation in the discussion is evaluated as well.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The main goal of the seminar is it to show that the philosophical Taoism gives an original contribution to the philosophical discussion. There is nothing comparable in other philosophical traditions.

Examination topics

Important chapters of the Daodejing in German translation.will be reported and commented. These chapters will be compared with the Chinese text. In this way the text will become more clearly. Knowledge of the Chinese language however is not necessary.

Reading list

Reclam Bibl.10718 Laotse. Daodejing
Diese Ausgabe enthält sowohl den chinesischen als auch den deutschen Text. Leider ist das Buch relativ teuer. Wenn nötig könnte auch ein anderer zweisprachiger Text in Kopien zur Verfügung gestellt werden.
