The aim of the lecture series is to provide students with an overview of the main topics of research and methods in philosophy. The lecture series presents different approaches and research topics in philosophy currently available at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Vienna. Each week of our lecture series consists of a lecture by a different researcher of the Department of Philosophy (professor or Post-Doc). Each lecturer presents her main focus of research as well as her research methods. The lecture series will present the students with a broad spectrum of philosophical approaches and perspectives, from epistemology, philosophy of language and metaphysics to ethics and political philosophy. After each lecture, the students will also have the opportunity to discuss the presented topic and methods with the researcher. The aim of the course is to give students a good overview of topics, approaches and methods in current philosophy. Methods:
In the lecture series, different philosophical topics and research methods will be presented by different philosophers. After each lecture students will have the occasion to discuss the presented approach with the researcher.
Some units of the lecture will be in German, others in English. There will be substitute literature in the respective other language.
