Aims, contents and method of the course
This seminar is an introduction to several general problems in the philosophy of science: observable facts and experiments, induction and confirmation, falsificationism, Bayesianism, revolutions and incommensurability, the nature of theories, laws of nature, and realism vs anti-realism.
Assessment and permitted materials
This is a discussion-based seminar, with minimal lecturing, focused on careful reading and rigorous understanding of philosophical texts.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Active participation in discussion (15%), seminar presentation (25%), and a term paper on a topic chosen in consultation with the instructor (60%). Detailed instructions for writing your paper will be given in the seminar.By registering for this course, you agree that the automated plagiarism checking software Turnitin will check all written submissions made by you in Moodle.All the evaluation components above are required for successfully completing this course.
