Aims, contents and method of the course

Supported by a bulk of empirical data, evolutionary anthropology is the discussion of all aspects of human life from the point of view of evolutionary theory. Evolutionary anthropology offers essential elements on the way to a secular, naturalistic view of humans and is of eminent philosophical importance. The lecture deals mainly with the following topics:
Fundamentals of evolutionary thinking / The "special path" of human Evolution / Ethology and sociobiology / Social Evolution: From small (kin) groups to mass societies / Social Evolution: Genes, sex, and morality / Social Evolution: Aggression and violence, roots of wars / Festivals, celebrations, rituals / The evolution of human nutrition / Still hunter and gatherer / Evolutionary medicine / Evolution and education: Between freedom and tyranny / The costs of civilization / Dead end of civilization? / Evolution and the (possible) future of humankind
