Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The topic of this lecture is the famous Midnight Song from Friedrich Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra: O man! Take heed! / What says deep midnight's voice indeed? / I slept my sleep-, / From deepest dream I've woke, and plead:- / The world is deep, / And deeper than the day could read. / Deep is its woe-, / Joy - deeper still than grief can be: / Woe says: Hence! Go! / But joys all want eternity-, / -Want deep, profound eternity! - On the basis of these verses, some central constellations of Nietzsche's thought will be elaborated and their anthropological and cultural-philosophical implications will be questioned and made productive for the present. The lecture is thus also an introduction to Nietzsche's philosophy and a foundation of aesthetic and cultural theoretical questions.
