Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course combines a lecture series with a text seminar. There will be between four and seven talks per Semester, delivered by international scholars being specialized in the respective topic of the course. In the rest of the meetings we will read texts that correspond to the topics of some of the talks.

This semester. the topic of the colloquium will be "Values and Scientific Objectivity in Logical Empiricism". The texts for the seminar part will be prepared for online access for the first meeting on October 11.

If someone has access to the respective literature, it would be very useful to read the following texts, in prerparation for the first meeting on October 11:

Rudolf Carnap, "Theoretische Fragen und praktische Entscheidungen"
Hans Kelsen, "Wissenschaft und Demokratie" (1937)

Assessment and permitted materials

In order to receive a certificate ist is required to (a) attend at least 10 meetings and (b) submit a seminar paper that deals with one of the topics being covered by the course.
