Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Students learn to understand subjectivation processes as active and passive moments of external and internal control and become familiar with important theoretical references of a power-critical theory of education. In the seminar, students will independently and jointly examine contemporary programs of subject analysis on the basis of selected literature. Michel Foucault's discourse theory, Louis Althusser's concept of 'interpellation', Judith Butler's concept of 'performativity and subversion' and Gayatri Spivak's concept of the 'subaltern' will be discussed and debated.
Assessment and permitted materials
Attendance, participation and reading of the texts are obligatory. In some cases, excerpts of the texts to be read will have to be submitted. A 'exam' or 'seminar paper' is planned for the end of the semester. The exact mode will be discussed together at the first meeting.
