Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this seminar is to test the scientific game with numbers on a relevant example. The subject is the development of a test for media competence. Media literacy is a central topic of media education research. The development and testing of a test offers various possibilities to try out the application of collection and evaluation methods.
You get to know the procedures in clearly structured steps. The focus is on the interpretation of the results, i.e. the meaning of numbers in educational research.

Assessment and permitted materials

In this course you will work on a number of smaller partial performances which will be evaluated individually. The submission of all partial performances is obligatory.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The partial tasks include:
- development of the concept of media competence (literature will be provided)
- development of questions on media literacy
- collection of data
- evaluation of the data
- interpretation of the data
- compilation of the partial tasks into a research report

Examination topics

In order to ensure good scientific practice, the course administration may provide for an oral reflection of the submitted research report, which must be successfully completed. In simple language: If there is a suspicion that you have cheated, there will be an oral examination.
